For the past few months, with a number of my clients, the feeling of resentment has been coming up...a lot. So, I thought I would write about it, just in case you might be feeling the same way.

Resentment is poison disguised as protection. It whispers that if you hold on long enough, the pain will make sense. That justice will be served. That replaying the hurt will somehow undo it. But here’s the truth: Resentment isn’t protecting you. It’s imprisoning you.

It doesn’t punish the person who hurt you—it punishes you. It seeps into your thoughts, your body, your relationships. It keeps you stuck in the past while life moves forward without you. And the longer you carry it, the heavier it becomes.

But here’s the good news: You don’t have to live like this.

3 Steps to Releasing Resentment:

  1. Acknowledge It: Where does resentment live in your body? How does it show up in your life? Recognizing it is the first step to releasing it.
  2. Reframe the Narrative: Instead of reliving the pain, ask yourself: What can I learn from this? How can I turn this wound into wisdom?
  3. Choose Freedom: Forgiveness isn’t about saying what happened was okay—it’s about refusing to let it have power over you any longer. Maybe that means setting boundaries. Maybe it means a conversation. Maybe it simply means letting go in your heart.
